Idea Lab!

This year Our Lady of Lourdes School underwent a major expansion of its IDEA lab. IDEA is an acronym for Innovate, Design, Explore, and Assemble. The lab was started a few years ago with donated sewing machines, tools, craft supplies and circuitry kits.  Since then the lab has moved into the main school building and expanded the materials available to the students. Thanks to the generosity of the OLL Athletic department, this summer a green screen, Microbits, IPads, drills, scroll saw, and digital sewing machines were purchased along with supplies. One of the junior high parents, Mollie Busam, is offering a woodworking class one day a week during lunch and Flex period. Students are learning the proper use of tools and creating projects. Several students have also enjoyed learning how to use the green screen to create original videos, with plans to have an after school workshop taught by a former student. Our hope is to find more ways to incorporate the IDEA lab in the classroom, so that all students may experience becoming makers.

March For Life

OLL is once again a part of the March for Life pilgrimage to Washington, DC in January, 2020. The dates are January 23-25, and the bus leaves from the Lourdes parking lot. As always, we pray, march, visit our congressman, and share fellowship with one other. We even manage to do some sightseeing. Because of generous donors, the cost of this year’s trip has been reduced. If you have never been before, please consider this worthwhile activity. It is so much more than just a “trip.” To make reservations or to get more info, call Barb at 720-0871.

This one-night school fundraiser has no cost to enter and features a Reverse Raffle with the winner taking home $20,000. In addition to the reverse raffle, there is Blackjack, silent auction items, basket raffles, split-the-pot and other games of chance, as well as reasonably priced food, craft beer and a full bar. Most importantly, 100% of the proceeds of this event go directly to Our Lady of Lourdes School, totaling more than $290,000 over the past eight years. The proceeds from this event have gone a long way in keeping the rising costs of a private education under control so that today’s families can afford to provide their children the same excellent OLL education.
