a. Ms. Rusche announced the 8th grade scholarship winners to Seton, Mercy, Elder, and
Summit Country Day.
b. A new program, Girl’s Tech Corps, will be starting this quarter. This program is
designed to get women excited and involved in technology. The group will meet ten
times, and it is important that participants attend all ten sessions. OLL 5th grade girls
will be invited to participate first; then, if needed, the program will be opened to the
4th and 3rd grade girls (there may be as many as 20 girls who could participate). The
OLL students will be mentored by students from Mercy High School. (St. Ursula
Academy is the other high school involved).
c. Catholic Schools Week will begin with the OLL School Open House. There is a
flyer for Open House that will distributed to the area kindergartens and in the local
paper. Ms. Rusche is asking the members of the Education Commission to be present
during the Open House in St. Robert’s Hall. The Open House will take place Sunday,
January 27, 2008 from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Terri Brown asked if the registration
form that was created last year will be used. The new registration form contains a
statement concerning parent involvement in the school. The business manager
suggested that the parent involvement statement be reviewed again. He suggested that
parents have an obligation to the school to make timely tuition payments and celebrate
the sacraments, particularly the Mass, with their children. The commission agreed that
parents will need to file the appropriate paperwork in order to receive financial
assistance. The committee also agreed that its policies will need to be consistent with
those of the Pastor, Finance Committee, and PMT.
d. The CSI index was not indicated on the Terra Nova report given to the parents. If
parents want to know his/her child’s CSI index, they should contact the school office.
e. Paula Metz has been working with the software company who makes the report cards.
The format of the report cards is close to being what the school has requested;
however, teachers will still need to write or type comments.
f. The PTO Mini Workshops will be held in March. The exact date is still being
determined.
a.Lunch Issues
ACTION ITEM: Amy Osterfeld will send the commission members the revised draft of
the letter and survey that will be sent to parents involving hot lunches. The committee
will reply to Amy regarding any changes or comments.
b.Volunteerism Committee
A draft of Parent Service Hour proposal was distributed by Terri Brown. A
discussion concerning parent involvement and how to encourage involvement
from more people followed. Everyone agrees that this is an important aspect of the
school. Craig Maliborski suggested that instead of having parents logging hours more
effort be made in contacting parents that are not involved and asking for their help
with various activities. It was suggested that the data concerning parish volunteers and
involvement collected by Sr. Maria be looked at before proceeding with this proposal.
c.Election Committee
Terri Brown will be the contact person to the PMT for the election of new
Education Commission members. Ms. Rusche indicated that she has names of people
who may be willing to serve on the committee.
The agenda item regarding discipline was tabled until the next meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Craig Maliborski
Secretary
