Terri Brown opened the meeting with a prayer, and there was an approval of the December minutes.

Principal’s Report:

1.  A handout for St. Lawrence Deanery Future Schools Meetings Schedule was

     distributed.

2.  A list of the scholarships to Mother of Mercy and Elder High Schools was announced.

3.  Nancy Jamison and Sue Kampel were thanked for their work on the brochure for

     OLL.

4.  During Catholic Schools Week, a DVD will be played in most rooms pertaining to

OLL.  DVD’s will be offered to new families.

5.  There has been another Smart Board donation.  This is the fourth one since last spring.

6.  An “Action Plan for Parents and Others” was handed out.  This is to inform families

of state funded support for education.  The Catholic Conference of Ohio is asking

families to contact their state representatives to increase the overall education budget.

Ways to communicate this to the parish families were discussed.  One way is for the

POC to send out a group email to parishioners to instruct them on the process.

Elaine Tepe reported on Catholic Schools Week.  Open House will be Sunday, January 28, 2007 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Karen Rusche was asked if there will be registration at the Open House.  She stated registration will be in February.

Terri Brown addressed the new changes to the Admissions Policy.  This will be revised per our discussion and approved at a later meeting.

There was discussion about the Statement of Commitment Policy as tied in with the tuition policy.  Jim Frede questioned the definition of “active in parish”.  He suggested there be no “out of parish” tuition in order to stay competitive with other schools and open the boundaries.  After much discussion, it was decided to let the Parish Finance Committee review and recommend a tuition policy.  Jim Frede stated he would present the policy to the Finance Committee and report back at the next meeting.  As for the Statement of Commitment, we will look at that over time.

When the expulsion policy was discussed, the question arose as to whether it should include the words “at the discretion of the principal.”  Karen Rusche stated she would check with the diocesan personnel.

The Dress Code policy sub-committee has not met yet.  The Board can state that there will be a dress code but not necessarily write the policy.  The Board sets the guidelines.  A committee will be formed in conjunction with teachers to recommend a dress code.

Julie Balzano reported on the Kindergarten recruitment sub-committee.  Telephone calls were made to prospective parents for kindergarten and first grade.  She did not have a set number of students planning to enroll.  Flyers will be distributed to area pre-schools about the upcoming open house.

Terri Brown presented a past question to Karen Rusche concerning the grouping of the fourth grade.  Parents raised concerns about how the grouping was devised and why we were left with only two groupings.  Karen Rusche stated that it was not financially feasible to have three groupings.  She has not received any negative feedback as to the two groupings.

Terri Brown reminded the Board that some terms of Board members will be expiring and to look for prospective candidates.

There was an adjournment of the meeting.  The next meeting TBA.  There was a closing prayer.

                                                           Respectfully submitted,

                                                           Julie Balzano
