Our Lady of Lourdes Parish envisions a catechetical renewal that nurtures a life-long commitment to the ongoing faith formation of each member of the parish. As faith is deepened each parishioner will grow in deeper relationship with God and bring the power of the Gospel to the larger community. We ask for the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit as we share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Philiosophy of Our Religious Education Program
The Religious Education Program at Our Lady of Lourdes endeavors to catechize the hearts and minds of the children enrolled by providing an atmosphere where faith can be known, celebrated, and lived. Ever mindful that parents bear the primary responsibility for the faith formation of their children; mutual cooperation and assistance are needed to achieve our goals.
Religious Education
Early Childhood religious education is offered for children ages four and five. Classes are held in St. Bernadette Hall during the 10 a.m. Sunday Mass. Our Sunday Visitor, I Am Special series is designed to support parents in educating their children about the Catholic faith. The program helps children form Christian attitudes about themselves and others in a welcoming environment of prayer, play, and group activities.
Religious Education is provided for children in grades 1-8 who attend area public schools. Classes build on the child’s experience of faith in the home through instruction and faith experiences in the classroom. Within the context of the program, sacramental preparation is provided at the appropriate levels. It is our policy that students receive religious instruction at least one year prior to receiving a sacrament. Since First Communion is usually received in second grade, it is necessary that a child attend Religious Education classes in first grade. Classes for grades 1-8 meet on Monday evenings, 6:45-8 p.m.
All classes are taught by people of the parish who graciously volunteer their time. These volunteers have been trained to work with their particular grade levels. Classes begin in mid September and end in early May. For more information, contact Carol Greulich, 347-2646 or e-mail cgreulich@lourdes.org .
