Child Protection Decree and Fingerprinting
Do You Plan to Volunteer?
The Archdiocesan Decree on Child Protection requires employees and volunteers who have regular, significant contact with children to attend a session explaining the Archdiocesan guidelines concerning the protection of our children. There are several parishes that offer this training for Our Lady of Lourdes volunteers. The session lasts approximately one hour. St. Teresa of Avila offers the session on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the church undercroft. St. James of White Oak offers the session on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Seniors Room.
As part of this Decree, volunteers must also submit to a criminal background check from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification. The state of Ohio processes criminal background checks using fingerprints. You must bring your driver’s license or government issued identification with you. Fingerprinting is available at St. Teresa of Avila Monday through Friday from 9-10 a.m. and 1-2 p.m., and on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 5-6:45 p.m. St. James of White Oak offers fingerprinting on Mondays from 10 a.m.–12 p.m., on Wednesdays from 3-7 p.m., and on Fridays from 1-3 p.m.
Both the Decree Session and fingerprinting are mandatory before volunteering.
