The Baptism of the Lord

The Baptism of the Lord

One of life’s most important challenges is knowing what we are called to do – and accepting the call.  Some find that easy and others struggle with it.  Jesus, too, came to realize his calling and he accepted it when he stepped into the River Jordan to be baptized.  He was called by his Father to give his life for others.  At baptism, we, too, are called as God’s own.  We are all called – like Jesus – to be for others.

On this day when we remember the Baptism of our Lord.  It is fitting that we also remember our own baptism.  The promise made on the day of our baptism was to follow the Lord Jesus, wherever he leads us.  We do not know the road, but we know the destination because we know the Lord, our guide.

In moments like this we are taken out of ourselves, the way John the Baptist is; caught up in something greater than we are.  But at the same time, because of this, we find ourselves – our true selves.

Let us pray today that we, too, will hear the voice of God proclaim about us – “This is my beloved in whom I am well pleased.”

What stories are told about your baptism?  How do you live your baptism today?

Have a blessed week!  Fr. Len
