Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Book of Wisdom is linked with Solomon.  Note in the story of Solomon, the young king prays to God, not for riches or power but for an understanding heart to govern the people.  God grants this request.

Our reading today from Wisdom provides a counterpoint to the Gospel where Jesus discusses the great price of discipleship.  “Riches” in the Gospel mean everything related to worldly goods, possessions, and relationships.  To be a faithful disciple, we must not let any of these goods or actions stand in the way of our service of God.

The life of a faithful disciple often requires finding, losing, and finding again our heart’s desire – joining the God who calls us by name to build the heavenly kingdom.  We may find ourselves walking away, unable to respond with a full and definite “yes” to Jesus.  If this happens, allow these emotions to be the key to true discernment so that you may find true happiness in the God who calls you and cares so deeply for you.

How might God be calling you to consider the priorities of life?

This weekend we celebrate our heritage at Lourdes.  Take time to share your story of your journey at Lourdes.  Take some time after Mass to notice the photos that depict how we have journeyed as a parish community since 1927.

Finally, I urge you to take time to provide your input to the Archdiocesan Beacons of Light pastoral planning process.  This effort will have a significant influence on our community.  Go to www.beaconsaoc.org or see the forms in the back of church.

Have a blessed week!  Fr. Len
