Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Genesis creation story, everything is called good. Then God notes, “It is not good for man to be alone.”

Jesus in the Gospel passage points to the intimate relationship of men and women from the beginning of creation. He notes that they are created in God’s image. He emphasizes this as he responds to the Pharisees test question about divorce. His response challenges Jewish law which provided for an easy
certificate of divorce, and he proceeds to lay out the ideal on which all marriages are based.  Jesus tells the disciples in the Gospel, “Whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” We should not hear this as an idealization of children, but rather as an embrace of Jesus for all those who have no status, no claims to make, no power to wield, and so are receptive to the great gift that is offered – the kingdom of God.

Take time this week to make a list of the people with whom God has enriched your life. Thank God for them and if possible, let them know you are grateful for their presence in your life.

The draft plan of Families of Parishes, the first phase of the Beacons of Light pastoral planning process, is now posted for you to view on the Beacons of Light website. Please be sure to visit Catholicaoc.org before Wednesday, October 20, to study the plan and provide your feedback in the comment box available on the site. Your thoughtful input at this stage of the planning process would be most valuable.

Have a blessed week! Fr. Len
