Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

As we listen to today’s Gospel from St. Mark, the disciples raise a concern that someone who is not a follower of Jesus is “driving out demons” in Jesus’ name. Jesus immediately stops them and tells them
“Whoever is not against us is for us.” We discover a similar occurrence in the first reading. Eldad and
Medad, who were not present when God bestowed the spirit received the spirit anyway. Notice Moses'
response when he challenges those who raise this concern, “Are you jealous for my sake?/Would that
all people of the Lord were prophets!”

We are all workers in the kingdom. We are called to renounce the temptation of competition and the hunger to be better than others. By celebrating and welcoming the talents of others, we exercise the humility of Christ. The kingdom of God grows in our midst when people develop their talents fully, not
for their own glory, but for the good of all and as an act of praise to the Lord.

This week in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati an important announcement will be made. Beacons of Light
is a multi-year process of pastoral planning for the archdiocese. Groupings of parishes, or Families of
Parishes will come together as one faith community. An initial proposal of the groupings will be announced on October 1 st . There will be a period for public comment from October 1st to October 20th.
Go to for further information. It is the hope of this planning process that these new “Families of Parishes” will be stronger, with the resources to focus more on mission than on maintenance.

This week on September 28th Deacon Tom celebrates the 29 th Anniversary of his Deaconate Ordination. We are all grateful for his service to the church, especially Our Lady of Lourdes. Continue to pray for him and his family.

Have a blessed week! Fr. Len
